Walmart Suppliers

Since 2005, Walmart has worked extensively to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of its own box retail stores. Continuing GHG emission reductions resulted from projects and initiatives drafted to mitigate the emissions from direct sources, such as fleet vehicles, refrigerants, and purchased electricity. These GHG emission reduction efforts have contributed significantly to Walmart’s initial goal of a 20 % reduction in GHG emissions by the end of 2012.

However, Walmart and its partners identified a far greater potential to reduce environmental impact by addressing the supply chain emissions of Walmart’s numerous suppliers, and thus the Walmart Supplier GHG Innovation Program was developed to achieve another ambitious GHG reduction goal: reduce the carbon footprint from supply chain and products’ lifecycles by 20 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents from calendar year 2010 to 2015.

The Supplier GHG Innovation Program enables Walmart and its suppliers to achieve mutually beneficial GHG emission reductions through cooperation and shared methodology.
